About this role:The Assistant Shift Supervisor supervises all
security/control related functions and staff during the duty shift
and is responsible for maximum facility coordination regarding
resident supervision and safety. Is responsible for the preparation
of required records and reports.What you bring to the
table:Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
- College coursework and advanced training in behavioral
sciences, correctional services or related field
preferred.Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience working in a correctional or
secure treatment facility.
- One (1) supervisory experience preferred.
- Be at least 19 years of age.
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor
involving perjury or false statement, nor have received a
dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United
States.
- Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo
contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor
involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for
employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension
of a sentence or withholding of adjudication.
- Have been fingerprinted by the employing agency.
- Have passed a physical examination by a licensed
physician.
- Be of good moral character.
- Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command
the respect and confidence of residents and staff, philosophically
committed to the objectives of the facility, and possess a high
tolerance to mental stress.
- Willingness and ability to work evenings, nights, and
weekends.Licenses/Certifications:
- Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) certification as a
Correctional Officer.
- Ability to obtain certification for training such as CPR, First
Aid and firearms.What you will do:
- Assists in the development and implementation of policies,
procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment
of residents.
- Conducts shift briefings; disseminates information regarding
resident status and new or revised polices and procedures;
validates staff attendance and appearance, assigns staff to
posts.
- Responds to unusual occurrences. Facilitates prompt and
appropriate assistance to residents in the event of injury, illness
or emotional trauma.
- Monitors staff interaction with residents. Evaluates resident
behavior and interactions; directs or takes steps to diffuse
critical situations.
- Directs the work of other employees. This may include the
selection, hiring, evaluating job performance, employee
training/development, promoting and proposing any disciplinary
action, including termination.
- Makes assignments, reviews post orders and assures that all
procedures including emergency procedures are in place and staff is
trained in proper implementation.
- Reviews disciplinary matters concerning both staff and
residents.
- Monitors search procedures, monitors resident movement,
resolves resident complaints; provides immediate corrective action
to security staff when needed.
- Gives primary guidance on situational problems; making
referrals for more complex problems.
- Prepares records and reports as assigned by management.
Maintains daily logs as required.
- Responsible for attaining facility goals/objectives and
ensuring compliance with all contract requirements, regulations,
rules, policies and/or procedures for security operations.
- Directs work, provides training and performs inspections of
work performed by security staff. May provide resident supervision
and security in other areas as needed.
- Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a
variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow
standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
- Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of
instructions and apply knowledge to different factual
situations.
- Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to
details.
- Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous
basis.
